Vulva Luv Club
VLC is an art project by Heather Loweena which looks to tackle the shame and stigma associated with all things VULVA. Ahead of valentines day 2021 contributions were invited in response to the below message…
Vulva Luv Club has hosted inclusive workshops promoting pleasure as a form of activism, and as a chance to speak openly about the topics that the word ‘vulva’ may naturally bring up.
Workshops I have worked solo or in collaboration with local creatives.
If you would be interested in hosting a VLC session then get in touch. Want a session to focus on something in particular such as pleasure, health and wellbeing, menopause, non-binary? We are here to normalise conversations and challenge the stigma and shame associated with saying the world ‘VULVA’.
I am also a level 4 qualified sex educator.
Sex isn’t all about penetration. And penetration does not equate to pleasure.

Taught to appease our care givers, for good reason, we were often #groomedbythepatriarchy, taught to submit, ‘sit still’ and we still do, tell things like this to little people… when we could be empowering them instead…with knowledge that empowers them… and gifts them with a sense of things bodily autonomy and empowerment so they know how to simply say the word ‘no’….
I am a survivor of SA.
Over the last few years I have suffered from a combination of burnout and PTSD symptoms. I finally took the time to listen to hear what my insides where trying to tell me and seeked the appropriate support and therapy. I learnt that a contributing factor was simply growing up in a patriarchal society which led me to believe my role in this world was to appease men and generally suppress my feelings; I’d ‘do better’ if I didn’t cause a fuss, so ended up, learnt to keep big things to myself.
I know I am not the only one, yet it feels like we’ve normalised such things as just a part of life if you’re growing up femme.

This has to stop….
So in an attempt to challenge the stigma and hear a more positive dialogue around the topic of SEX I am asking YOU as a creative type to create a contribution for a Vulva Luv Club zine, to be produced as an alternative message for Valentines day, February 14th 2021. Whether you’re a painter, photography, illustrator or perhaps creative writing is your thing, I am inviting you to join on this passion project of mine to have some fun and celebrate some warm and yummy Vulva Luv.
It is important for me to acknowledge that not all vulva owners are women and not all women have vulvas – there’s trans, intersex and non-binary folk.

Perhaps you’ve never paid much attention to Le Vulva and who would blame you.
Through history the anatomy of a vulva owner has been largely focused on just the VAGINA, which is why we still don’t know so much about things like the clitoris because it wasn’t seen worth mentioning (shout out to the patriarchy here).
Maybe now would be the time to show yourself some Luv, learn a little something yourself.
Perhaps you don’t have a vulva but you’re a fan and would like to share some words about just how wonderful they are.
A pleasure portal that leads to the womb which is literally WHERE ALL LIFE COMES FROM!! Is that not pure magic?!
In some parts of the world Vulvas are getting miss treated through violence, FGM and even the beauty industry has people wanting their labia trimmed. They come in all different shapes and sizes and are therefore each uniquely different which makes them special and beautiful, just as they are.

I am very much looking forward to work with you on this as we co-create The Vulva Luv Club Big Vulva Luv Heather x
